Counterpunch 12 16 2020 To admit the truth about Trump and authoritarianism then means they have to do something about it. Many people do not want to take that leap. * Ruth Ben-Ghiat, July 23, 2020 We have a Nazi problem in this country…They don’t, for the most part, wave swastikas and salute Hitler, but [...]
Counterpunch 12 4 2020 It Just Keeps Yapping Flicking around the channel spectrum last Sunday I ran across the fascist charlatan Donald Trump in real time. He was telling a mentally challenged Fatherland (FOX) News host named Maria that he actually won the election and the “the Democrats used covid to stuff the ballot boxes.” [...]
Counterpunch 11 27 2020 Routinely described by its “leaders” as “the greatest country in the world” (hereafter “GCITW”) and “the richest country in the world” (hereafter “RCITW”), the United States is home to 4.25% of the world’s population but 21% of global COVID-19 cases and 18% of global COVID-19 deaths. Why has the GCITW fared [...]
Counterpunch 11 26 2020 Hugo Chavez and Brown Ooze Some Americans are getting ready to celebrate the likely final collapse of Donald Trump’s openly ludicrous and vile attempt to subvert the will of the American electorate. I get it. Trump’s chances of success are low. He and his team of legal bozos shoot themselves in [...]
Counterpunch 11 23 2020 The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg recently conducted a long and obsequious interview with Barack Obama. The interview was occasioned by the apparent defeat of Obama’s fascist successor Donald Trump and by the recent release of the first volume of Obama’s much-awaited presidential memoir A Promised Land – Obama’s third book about Obama, soon to be [...]
Counterpunch 11/20/2020 What matters is not so much the color of your skin as the power you serve and the millions you betray. - Frantz Fanon Introduction: A Dark Irony Amidst Pandemo-Fascist Horror “The horror,” reads the flattering and (if I might say so) perfectly crafted (in September) back-cover description of my new short volume Hollow [...]
Counterpunch 11/16/2020 Trump and Pence need to be removed from power immediately for three basic reasons. First, consistent with my own and others’ understanding of the current White House as proto-fascist, Trump and his inner circle continue to absurdly claim that the 2020 election vote was fraudulent and have yet to give up conducting a [...]
Counterpunch 11/13 2020 The neoliberal imperialist Barack Obama and his fellow Left-hating establishment Democrats have cost me a lot of online “friends.” I’m not referring to liberals, moderates, and progressives who have taken umbrage at my radical Left criticism of Clinton-Obama-Pelosi Democrats (hereafter “COP Dems”)’ nauseating fealty and service to capital and empire. I never had friends, real or [...]
*Behold below the following abbreviated online appendix to my book Hollow Resistance: Trump, Obama, and the Politics of Appeasement (CounterPunch Books, October 2020). It is a compilation of Trump’s worst offenses while serving as president. The list is particularly non-comprehensive for the period after July of 2020 for a simple and depressing reason: I could [...]
Counterpunch, November 11, 2020 Those who own the country ought to govern it. – John Jay You have owners. – George Carlin Nobody Said Biden’s Name I walked up to Chicago’s Trump Tower down the middle of Michigan Avenue last Saturday night. Within four blocks of the hated structure, both sides of the street were [...]
