The Paul Street Report, 3.30.2023 “You want a woman to carry around a dead fetus as she goes septic? That’s your vision of freedom for the state of Florida? That’s despicable…Where is the uprising? Where is the outrage? Where are people…Why aren’t all the women walking out and saying ‘fuck you’?” - Florida Senate Minority [...]
CounterPunch, 3.31.2023 Recently I was slightly surprised to hear an old Marxist friend and Bernie Sanders fan declare her “unqualified love” for Charles Dickens. I’m no great fan of the anti-communist snitch George Orwell, but the future author of 1984 got it right on the famous and much-adored 19th Century British novelist in a 1940 essay that properly ridiculed the then [...]
The Paul Street 'Report, 3.27.2023 “The Temptation of Violence” The spoiled capitalist brat and French president Emanuel “Hot for Teacher” Macron insists that the French must work two more years before they can retire. How’s that working out? In a beautiful outburst of mass sanity and fury, masses in France have stopped work, taken to [...]
CounterPunch, 3.24.2023 Once you look beyond the ‘chaos’ in Washington, what you see is the work not of nihilists, but committed ideologues fully determined to impose their reactionary vision of what America should be on as many people as possible and to punish those who dare to deviate from that vision or dissent. * Thomas [...]
The Paul Street Report, 3.21.2023 “They’re Killing Our Nation” The fascist blood-libel QAnon fan and twice-impeached putschist Donald “Take Down the Metal Detectors” Trump last week responded in predictable asinine but lethal fashion to the possibility that he may be indicted by a New York grand jury in lower Manhattan* for violating campaign finance laws. Consistent with [...]
The Paul Street Report, 3.19.2023 Sweet child in time You'll see the line The line that's drawn between Good and bad See the blind man Shooting at the world Bullets flying Oh, taking toll If you've been bad Oh, Lord, I bet you have And you've not been hit Oh, by flying lead You'd better [...]
CounterPunch, 3.17.2023 Sometimes it is hard to know who is worse: the Christian white nationalist neofascists who keep pushing the nation further right or the hollow and passive resistance of the fake-opposition Weimar Democrats who keep accommodating the ever more mainstreamed far right. But we don’t have to choose. The fascisation of US politics and [...]
The Paul Street Report, MAR 11, 2023 Dear Readers: here, below, is a speech I gave (in somewhat shorter form) at a rally held by the Chicago Revolution Club and Rise Up for Abortion Rights (RU4AR) Rights on International Woman’s Day in downtown Chicago last Wednesday: Women, Life, Freedom! The Paul Street Report is a [...]
The Paul Street Report, 3.10.2023 I want to add to my list of false Western narratives on the Ukraine War. In previous essays[1], I – with no love for the fascist war criminal Vladimir Putin – have critiqued eight such narratives so far: (i) “Russia’s criminal and unjustified invasion of Ukraine was completely unprovoked by the [...]
The Paul Street Report, 3.7.2023 Dear readers: I am doing a Tuesday piece instead of a Thursday one this week due to some travel. Beware of distraction. Look for the shit that’s going while they’ve got you looking at something else. Case in point: the dominant US media wants you to think that human civilization [...]
