Counterpunch, 9.24.2021 I have, as expected, received numerous emails defending Glenn Greenwald against a recent CounterPunch essay in which I, among other things (all of which were ignored by the emailers), criticized his mocking presentation of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s instantly infamous “Tax the Rich” gown caper as an attempted act of “revolutionary socialism.” Don’t disparage Glenn Greenwald in left media unless you are [...]
Counterpunch, 9.6.2021 Much of the United States (US) is in crisis as capitalist-imperialist chickens are coming home to roost. Multiple Interrelated Crises Rooted in Bourgeois Evil Millions of acres on the onetime US Western frontier are on fire, the natural and predictable outcome of the over-heating of the arid and now drought-plagued West by the [...]
Counterpunch, September 11, 2021 So much we are supposed to forget or not know and/or care about, so little we are supposed to remember. “We must never forget” 9/11, when “America was attacked” (when, as cannot be said without sounding “controversial,” the United States Middle East policy blew back on the nation’s financial and political [...]
Counterpunch, 8.31.2021 I hope I am not the only one who has noticed a curious double-standard in American media-politics culture: right wing politicians and commentators are free to inaccurately and routinely describe corporate Democrats as “socialists,” “Marxists,” and even “communists” but it is exceedingly rare for politicos, pundits, and talking heads to properly describe the Amerikaner [...]
Counterpunch, 8.27.2021 The near octogenarian Joe Biden may well already be toast. He is on the economy and COVID-19 as the white supremacist Amerikaner Party of Trump (the APoT, formerly known as the Republican Party) moves to cancel and nullify nonwhite votes across much of the nation in the name of Donald “Save America” Trump’s big [...]
Counterpunch, 8.24.2021 The humiliating defeat of the American Empire in Afghanistan – replete with “near identical images” of frantic evacuation helicopters atop a US Embassy as in Saigon in 1975 – poses a dilemma for left anti-imperialists. We must always welcome and applaud setbacks suffered by the empire, which oppresses the world with its giant [...]
Counterpunch, 8.20.2021 Liberals and progressives would do well to understand that while class is not everything – far from it, as I shall argue below – there are still no real or lasting solutions to problems that rightly agitate them under capitalism and bourgeois democracy, that is, under the de facto material dictatorship of the capitalist class and its [...]
Counterpunch, 8/.17.2021 One of the doctrinal principles behind U.S. corporate-imperial news coverage and commentary and mainstream US politics is that the United States is a fundamentally benevolent force for good facing difficulties created by evil others and challenging situations not of Washington’s own making. Debate is permissible on immediate strategy and tactics but is not allowed on [...]
Counterpunch, 8.13.2021 While Joe Biden champions bipartisanship, the Republicans, now the Amerikaner Party of Trump (APOT), are taking a leaf from Adolf Hitler. Just before Christmas in 1924, Hitler left prison after serving time for leading the failed Nazi revolution (Beer Hall Putsch) of November 1923. He now understood that it had been premature to [...]
Counterpunch, 8.12.2021 Being a radical Leftist of the communist kind has curiously inoculated me from the “brocialist” economism and intimately related class reductionism that disfigures some key parts of the American left, such as it is. It’s not just that there’s no room for downplaying the problems of racism and sexism in genuinely radical politics [...]
